RESEARCH

Building evidence for better care

ACCORD Asha is committed to advancing research on rare and chronic diseases through genomics, molecular diagnostics, and translational research to improve diagnosis, treatment and patient outcomes.

ACCORD research mission

Our research mission is to:

  • Advance understanding of rare and chronic diseases in the Indian population
  • Develop and validate diagnostic tools and biomarkers
  • Identify effective treatment strategies and management approaches
  • Build capacity for research and clinical care
  • Bridge the gap between basic science and clinical practice
  • Contribute to national and global knowledge on rare diseases

Rare disease data

We are building a comprehensive database of rare disease cases in India:

  • Accurate diagnosis and classification of rare diseases
  • Longitudinal tracking of patient outcomes
  • Identification of disease patterns and epidemiological trends
  • Analysis of genetic and environmental factors
  • Creation of a national rare disease registry (planned)
  • Contribution to international rare disease databases

All data is collected with appropriate ethical oversight and patient consent. Research at ACCORD is closely linked to our clinical care and rehabilitation services.

Genomics

Our genomics research focuses on:

  • Whole exome sequencing and whole genome sequencing
  • Identification of novel disease-causing variants
  • Gene discovery and functional validation
  • Population-specific genetic architecture of rare diseases
  • Genotype-phenotype correlation studies
  • Carrier screening and prenatal diagnosis

Molecular diagnostics

We develop and validate molecular diagnostic assays:

  • Targeted gene panel testing
  • Next-generation sequencing for complex disorders
  • Metabolic and biochemical pathway analysis
  • Proteomic and metabolomic profiling
  • Single-cell analysis
  • Advanced imaging for diagnostic applications

Our diagnostic methods are designed for clinical utility and reliability. See our rare disease diagnosis page to understand how testing connects to care.

Translational research

We bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical care:

  • Preclinical models of rare diseases
  • Drug repurposing studies
  • Therapeutic target identification
  • Development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches
  • Implementation research to improve care delivery
  • Health technology assessment

Our translational research aims to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into tangible benefits for patients. We welcome academic and industry partnerships to advance this mission.

Clinical research

We conduct clinical studies to evaluate treatments and interventions:

  • Phase I-IV clinical trials (planned)
  • Observational studies and cohort research
  • Interventional studies on rehabilitation outcomes
  • Studies on long-term management of chronic conditions
  • Research on patient-reported outcomes and quality of life
  • Health services research

Available at ACCORD | Available through referral | Planned

Future clinical-trial capability

We are building infrastructure for clinical trials:

  • Investigational drug management
  • Pharmacovigilance systems
  • Participant recruitment and retention strategies
  • Regulatory compliance and ethics review
  • Study monitoring and data management
  • Collaboration with industry partners

Our diagnostic services already inform this work. Clinical trial capability is being developed in phases to ensure rigorous standards and patient safety.

Academic collaboration

We welcome collaboration with academic institutions:

  • Joint research projects and grants
  • Student and fellowship opportunities
  • Training and capacity building
  • Shared resources and facilities
  • Co-authorship on publications
  • Workshops and seminars

Our collaboration model emphasizes mutual benefit and scientific excellence.
